Ever think about the price we pay for enjoying writing? Picture this: we lose 30 football fields of trees every minute. That's a huge 15 billion trees each year worldwide, and 17% of that comes from making paper. Why? Because we really like to write, and the big demand for one-time use paper is causing lots of trees to disappear. The result? Bad things like CO2 emissions, soil that can't grow stuff, fewer kinds of plants and animals, and ecosystems almost falling apart. It's a big problem, and that's why it's time to make a change.

The heartbeat of MOYU

One MOYU tree planted

At MOYU, we've always thought there's something amazing about writing with a pen on paper. The feeling of your hand on the page is special, and it sparks creativity and makes memories stick. But, we realized that the huge need for paper was harming our planet. That's when MOYU decided to do something more meaningful. We didn't just want to make great notebooks; we wanted our business to help plant more trees and make the Earth green again. And that's how the roots and the rocks came together.

Roel’s Kenyan Tales

Imagine living in the heart of Kenya, surrounded by the rhythmic dance of nature. That was Roel, the visionary behind MOYU, for an entire year. Nature has always been his inspiration, and during his time in Kenya, he discovered something important - Trees for Kenya. Now, fast forward to today, and this project has turned into a symbol of a dream to plant more trees. While Roel was coming up with the plans for MOYU, he kept thinking about that exciting trip. A bright idea came to him, leading to a teamwork that would change the way we think about taking care of the Earth. Now, for every MOYU notebook sold, a tree is planted in Kenya.

Trees for Kenya: The Green Warriors

Kenyan Green Warriors with their MOYUs

Meet Trees for Kenya, guided by the passionate Paulino Damiano. For almost ten years, this non-governmental group has been working hard to plant more trees and make forests healthier again. They're not just planting trees; they're also working to bring life back to damaged forests, encourage farming that includes trees, and transform schools into green places. It's a movement born out of witnessing the destructive act of tree cutting in their youth, a movement that now spans communities, farms, and schools, making conservation a shared responsibility.

Cultivating Change, One Seedling at a Time

Cultivating a tree seedling

When you go to Trees for Kenya's plant nursery in Embu, you'll see how carefully they grow little plants. They mix soil and manure just right, help seeds grow, and then move the small plants to new places. Daniel Manaka, the forest ranger, makes sure these young trees stay alive in the Mount Kenya forests. It's not just about planting trees; they also want to teach people in schools about taking care of the environment, making sure we have a good world to pass on to the future. The focus isn't solely on tree planting; it's about cultivating environmental consciousness in schools, ensuring a sustainable legacy.

MOYU's Collaborative Vision

Community collaborating in reforestation efforts

Zoom into the heart of Kenya, where Roel, the visionary behind MOYU, witnesses the magic of their collaboration with Trees for Kenya. Think protected areas, women in tree nurseries owning their green game, and unexpected perks like upgraded water cycles—it's like Mother Nature throwing a party. Beyond merely planting trees, it's about unleashing a tidal wave of positivity in communities and the environment.

Mount Kenya's Symphony of Revival

Now, step with Roel into the fresh embrace of the revived Mount Kenya Forest. It's not just a comeback; it's a symphony of life finding its rhythm again. Elephants and gazelles are making a triumphant return, birdsong becomes the forest's favorite melody, and the dream of a thick, vibrant forest in the future is no longer just a dream. This transformation isn't a result of just planting trees; it's a living proof of MOYU and Trees for Kenya's grand vision. It's not a forest—it's a flourishing ecosystem, a testament to what happens when collaboration meets commitment.

Every Notebook, A Green Pledge

When you use your MOYU notebook, think of it as a stone-paper pledge to protect trees, a shout-out to the nature heroes at Trees for Kenya, and a promise to bring back our planet's natural balance. Be part of the team – let's change the story, tree by tree.
