Step by step to a Paperless Office: the middle way

A paperless office is a great goal for a company, but it may not always be realistic. Fortunately, there is always a middle way, where you do not have to choose one or the other, but look for a good balance. You don't have to do it all at once, you can also do it step by step. To determine where you want to start in making your office more sustainable, we list the savings for you.

 

 

What do you save in money by writing in sustainable notebooks?

A durable stonepaper notebook lasts much longer than a regular paper notebook. Because we cannot say exactly how long a MOYU booklet will actually last, we play it safe and keep it at 5 years. Perhaps that seems to be not that bad if you hear it that way, but an average employee uses 3 notebooks a year for his work.

  • So if you only have one notebook instead, that 5 years comes along, saves you that buying 15 notebooks of such 4 euros.
  • Instead of 60 euros to lay down for that 15 booklets, you buy 1 booklet in front of 26.95 or 34.95 euro. You save money with a Ring binder A5 33.05 euros and with a Premium A5 you save 25.05 euros.

Maybe that doesn't sound very impressive, but just consider what that is like for a company with 100 employees, or even 1000. Then it is suddenly a big saving. 😄

What do you save on trees by writing in sustainable notebooks?

To find out, let's first look at the difference between the production of pulp paper and stone paper.
  • For the production of 1 ton of pulp paper to be 8 trees required
  • For the production of 1 ton of stonepaper to be 0 trees required
That is of course a clear difference. No trees are needed for the production of stonepaper, so they can all remain standing. 😉 In addition, at MOYU we plant a tree per sold booklet, so instead of trees being cut down, trees are added!

What do you save in water by writing in sustainable notebooks?

The main problem with paper production is the large amount of water it requires. Unfortunately, the water that is used is not always purified afterwards. In fact, it is just waste. For that reason, paper mills often have to be located on a river or lake, which disrupts the ecosystem in those places.
  • For the production of 1 ton of pulp paper is 2770 liters of water required
  • For the production of 1 ton of stonepaper is 0 liters of water required
No water is needed for the production of stone paper. If you then consider that 1 ton of pulp paper is needed to make 4000 notebooks, then about 0.7 liters of water have been consumed per booklet. An average employee uses 3 notebooks per year, while a MOYU booklet lasts at least 5 years. That means that 1 MOYU booklet replaces 15 "normal" notebooks. So you save 10,387 liters of water per MOYU booklet.

What do you save in CO2 by writing in a sustainable notebook?

The main difference between stone paper and normal paper is in the emission of C02. The KIWA inspection institute calculated the difference.
  • When producing 1 ton of pulp paper is coming 1431 KG CO2 free
  • When producing 1 ton of stonepaper is coming 474 KG CO2 free

So that comes down to one difference of 957 kilograms of C02. So per 100 notebooks you save as much C02 as is emitted during a 150 kilometer car journey! 

Durable stonepaper notebooks are the perfect compromise if you like to go to one paperless office want, but you still want to keep writing by hand. 😉
